About

Asaka Creative Factory is the independent creative work of Hatsumi Asaka, a seasoned TV and film producer between New York and Tokyo. Over a career spanning three decades, Asaka has produced programs for major Japanese networks and collaborated on award-winning documentaries.

Asaka's career has followed an unconventional path.
Born and raised in Tokyo, Asaka began her career as a TV director at a Japanese production company. On a sudden impulse, she moved to New York—with a suitcase (or two), no contacts, no job, and no safety net.
Starting from scratch, she slowly built a new life and found her way into production work in the U.S.

Much of her work has been with NHK, Japan’s public broadcaster, where she directed and produced a wide range of programs—including international interviews, news features, and cultural documentaries. In 2021, Asaka joined the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games broadcast team as part of the technical production staff for Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS).

Since 2023, Asaka has been based in both New York and Tokyo.

Currently, alongside producing for TV and film, Asaka offers her expertise in interviewing, research, and translation, focusing on cross-cultural storytelling and global perspectives.
